Nightingale Surgery

History of the Practice

The Surgery opened in 1980 to meet the needs of a growing community. Doctors, nurses, health visitors and staff, work as a team and aim to give a personal, friendly and professional service for each patient.

Our aims are to provide a high standard of medical care, encourage healthy living and promote disease prevention. Nightingale Surgery is a partnership of five doctors supported by two other doctors and three Registrars.

The Partners are:

Dr Peter White BSc (Medsci) MB ChB FRCGP  Dundee 1974.    A full time GP with special interest in Men's Health, Research and teaching.  

Dr Susan Tippett MB ChB DRCOG FRCGP  Leeds 1975.         A full time GP interested in Women's Health, and is also a GP trainer.

 

Dr Richard Peace MBBS FRCS  London 1976.        A full time GP with a special interest in Diabetes, Minor Surgery, Teenage Health Problems and Sports medicine.

Dr Greg Warner MA MBBS MRCGP DCH DRCOG DSEM Cambridge 1985.     A part-time GP with a special interest in Orthopaedic, Sport medicine, and Diabetes.  Dr Greg Warner is also a GP trainer.

Dr Katie Warner MA MBBS MRCGP DRCOG  Cambridge 1983.         A part-time GP with a special interest in Women's Health. Dr Katie Warner is also a GP trainer.

 

Our other doctors are:

Prof Paul Little BA MBBS MRCP MSc MD MRCGP London 1989.       Prof. Little is with us for 2 sessions per week, and has a special interest in Research.

Dr Lucy Sadler MBBS MRCGP Newcastle 1988.

Dr Clare Polack BSc MRCP MRCGP DTMH DFFP MSc Newcastle 1994.     Dr Polack is with us for 2 days per week. has a particular interest in Elderly care, and after spending 18 months in Africa has developed a wealth of knowledge in Tropical medicine.

Our Registrars are:

Dr Camilla Bäck and Dr Kimberley Connor.

 

Surgery Facilities

The surgery has been designed to allow wheelchair access through the main door. There is a disabled/specimen toilet in the main corridor with supporting rails. There are male and female toilets off the waiting area. If you need a quiet area to feed/change your baby while at the surgery please ask the receptionists who will help you.

A visual patient call system.

The waiting area includes a play area for small children.

A drinking water dispenser is available in the waiting room.

Daily Newspapers.

Automated patient check in system.

Music and Local Radio.

General Practice Training

We are a training practice for general practice registrars. Our Registrars are fully qualified doctors with at least three years post graduate experience. Their appointment is for one year and all patients are welcome to consult with these doctors.

Southampton University Medical Students regularly attend the surgery for training. If you do not wish a student to be present during your consultation, please advise a receptionist.

 

The Patients Participation Group

This is a group of patients who act as a "sounding board" on patient matters. Meetings are held bi-monthly. All enquiries should be made to the Chairman, Jean Pushman who can be contacted via the practice. New members are always welcome.
